What is Collaborative Family Law?

What is Collaborative Family Law?

Collaborative Family Law is a method of resolving disputes between separating couples in a more dignified and civilised way without that bitter acrimony. Whilst you have access to your own legal advice through your solicitor, all discussions and negotiations take place at four-way roundtable meetings. Both parties and their solicitors are present. Everyone signs up to a written agreement to work together as a team through those sessions to bring about an amicable solution to the issues that are concerning the parties. In particular, the parties agree that neither will issue any Court proceedings and so neither has to be concerned in that regard.

Why take a Collaborative approach?

The focus is about reaching a solution that both parties are content with, rather than entering into possible protracted correspondence between solicitors and a Judge imposing a decision upon you after a Court hearing.

How to take a Collaborative approach?

The solicitor you instruct to assist you in such a process must be a qualified Collaborative Lawyer. At Josiah Hincks, both Jonathan Foster and Dawn Salter are collaboratively trained and are happy to advise further as to this method of Dispute Resolution.
